FCC Foundation grant funding to repair roof

Funding approved for roof repairs at Drumchapel & District Sports Centre in Glasgow.

The local community in Drumchapel are set to get an improved sports facility thanks to a £40,000 grant from FCC Communities Foundation.

The money will be used to refurbish and repair the roof at Drumchapel Sports Centre in Drumry Road East, Drumchapel.

Terry McLernon MBE, chairperson of Drumchapel Sports Centre believes the development of the facility will make a huge difference to the long-term future of the voluntary run venue.

He says: “This project will provide a real boost to the people of Drumchapel. It’s fantastic that FCC Communities Foundation has awarded us this money and we’re really looking forward to our sports centre developments taking shape over the next couple of months.”

FCC Communities Foundation is a not-for-profit business that awards grants for community projects through the Scottish Landfill Communities Fund.

Penny Horne, spokesperson for FCC Communities Foundation, says: “We’re delighted to be supporting the Drumchapel Sports Centre Roof Refurbishment project and pleased our funding will benefit so many people within Drumchapel and the surrounding neighbourhoods. FCC Communities Foundation is always happy to consider grant applications for projects that improve local communities and we’re looking forward to this one making a difference very soon.”

Mr McLernon says the facility will remain open for use by the clubs and local community through the refurbishments and hopes the works will be completed by June 2022.

Drumchapel Sports Centre is a voluntary run community owned facility which provides a home for several local sports clubs as well as hosts a wide range of activities for groups and organisations in the community. The facility is a hub for people in the local community with activities for young people, families, adults and older adults as well as targeted activities for people with long term health conditions, disabilities and mental health conditions all taking place in the centre regularly.
